Pain when chewing, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, or a broken tooth.
The doctor finds the cause, such as decay, a crack, a gum infection or a wisdom tooth, usually with an examination and an X-ray, then explains the options. If the pain is severe or your face is swollen, call us straight away.
Examination, scaling and polishing, and care for bleeding or swollen gums.
Scaling removes hardened tartar from above and below the gum line, and the teeth are then polished. Most people are advised to have a check-up and cleaning every six months.
Treating cavities, and saving a badly decayed or infected tooth.
A filling repairs a cavity, usually in one visit. When decay reaches the nerve, root canal treatment removes the infected pulp, cleans and seals the canals, and the tooth is usually protected with a crown. It is done under local anaesthetic.
Restoring broken or weak teeth, and filling the gap left by a missing tooth.
A crown is a cap that covers and protects a weak or root-canal-treated tooth. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by attaching to the teeth on either side. Both are made to match your teeth and usually take two visits.
Straightening crooked, crowded or gapped teeth, for teenagers and adults.
Metal or ceramic braces, or removable clear aligners, move teeth gradually into place. Treatment often lasts 12 to 24 months, with regular visits to check progress.
Replacing one, several or all missing teeth, fixed or removable.
An implant is a small titanium post placed in the jaw that holds a crown, and is completed over a few months. Dentures are removable replacements for several or all teeth. The doctor will explain which suits you.
Lightening teeth that are stained or discoloured.
Whitening lightens the natural colour of your teeth. It does not change the colour of crowns or fillings, so the doctor checks your teeth first and explains what to expect.
Removing damaged teeth and impacted wisdom teeth.
Teeth that are broken beyond repair, badly infected or impacted are removed under local anaesthetic. The doctor explains how to look after the area while it heals.

It is done under local anaesthetic, so the tooth is numb during treatment. Some tenderness for a few days afterwards is common and usually settles with simple painkillers the doctor recommends.
Most people are advised to have a check-up and cleaning every six months. The doctor may suggest a different interval depending on your teeth and gums.
